Zillow has released its five home trends for consumers in 2025.
The online real estate marketplace used data and created its list of trends by assessing hundreds of home features and design styles in for-sale listings in 2024, then identified the keywords showing up routinely compared to 2023. Zillow noted that certain features appear in a growing number of listings, and it is a sign that the homes are in demand and desirable for a buyer.

The five home trends are electric features, cozy vibes, old-world comeback, climate resiliency, and spa-inspired wet rooms.
Home buyers are searching for homes with sustainable and environmentally friendly features.
According to Zillow, mentions of whole-home batteries have increased by 62% since 2023. Whole-home batteries store excess energy from solar panels, acting as a generator during a power outage or if the sun is not shining. Meanwhile, solar panels are showing up 18% more often in for-sale listings on Zillow.
Additionally, electric vehicle chargers are appealing in 34% more for-sale listings on Zillow now compared to 2023, while mentions of induction cooktops increased 5%.
Zillow explains in a release that home listings mentioning “cozy” are up 35% compared to 2023, suggesting that homebuyers are opting for smaller, cozier houses that are affordable and sustainable instead of larger houses with open floor plans and additional space. Smaller, cozier, color-saturate rooms that serve a specific use, like dens and dining rooms.
Nostalgia is a growing trend, appearing in 14% more listings than in 2023, while “vintage” mentions have risen by 9%, Zillow noted.
Home libraries are increasing, appearing 22% more often in listings on Zillow. A second kitchen, or “back kitchen,” where hosts can conceal the work of meal preparations and cleanup, is showing up in 8% more listings this year compared to 2023.
Home sellers are starting to display features that offer a level of protection from climate-related disasters, and buyers are searching for them. Approximately 86% of homebuyers tell Zillow that it is important to them that a house has at least one climate-resilient feature.
Zillow reports that the number of for-sale listings on its website mentions flood barriers are up 22% compared to 2023, “seismic retrofitting,” or rebuilding a structure with new parts, is up 20%, and drought-resistant turf yards have increased 14% compared to last year.
According to Zillow, spa-inspired wet rooms, typically found in upscale hotels, are the latest upgrades appearing in homes. A wet room is a combination of a shower and bathtub in a waterproof space without a shower curb or enclosure. Wet rooms are showing up 19% more often in listings on Zillow.
